Mandatory data breach notification laws to take effect by 23 February 2018
The Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Data Breaches) Act 2017

What does this mean?
Companies or individuals who suffer a "seriously harmful" data breach must notify all their customers and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) of the breach, or risk being fined up to $1.8M.
Who does it apply to?
If you are in the health sector, deal with Tax File Numbers (TFN), or deal with consumer credit information, it is applicable to you regardless of turnover. For everyone else, its if you turn over more than $3M a yearDo not delay any further
